BCFW AVANT GARDE DESIGN COMPETITION
Design concepts should look to capture Caribbean culture, specifically the vibrant art, music, and traditional patterns from the region.

EVENT OBJECTIVE:
Join the BCFW Avant Garde Design Competition, hosted by VStyle Productions during Boston Caribbean Fashion Week each October. This year’s theme is Caribbean Bloom, and we invite designers to create unique designs inspired by the vibrant art, music, and traditional patterns of the Caribbean.
Competition Details:
- Objective: Showcase designs that embody Caribbean culture and creativity.
- Prizes: Winners will receive an award, certificate, and prizes.
- Judging: A panel of industry professionals will judge entries based on creativity, originality, design quality, construction, and adherence to the theme.
GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION:
Eligibility:
- Open to Massachusetts residents aged 18 and over.
- Open to both emerging and established fashion designers.
- Designers must submit two designs: one avant-garde and one ready-to-wear, both inspired by the Caribbean Bloom theme.
Design Requirements:
- Avant-Garde Design: Should be bold, innovative, and possibly 3-D.
- Ready-to-Wear Design: Should be comfortable for everyday wear while reflecting the theme.
- Use tropical colors and prints creatively.
- Employ avant-garde techniques and attention to detail.
- Designs should be versatile and adaptable to fashion trends.
- Sustainable and ethically sourced designs are encouraged.
- Multiple photos and sketches are required for submission.
- All designs must be original and created by the entrant.
Entrants must design their own original projects completely by themselves.
Entrants must follow the design and specifications outlined in their application for realization of their final product. You cannot submit any new designs once you submit your application.
Registration must be submitted on an individual basis.
Online registration, applications, and final projects received after the deadlines will not be accepted.
Designs cannot be presented in another competition during the year 2024/2025. Designs selected in the BCFW Avant Garde competition cannot be exhibited and published without the written mention of VStyle Productions: selected or awarded for the BCFW Avant Garde x Ready to Wear Competition 2024/2025 creative design
RULES & REGULATIONS FOR AVANT GARDE OBJECT COMPETITION 2024:
May 30th, 2024: Registration begins. Review the following key steps to begin your submitting process. If you have any questions, please email us at: info@bostoncfw.com
Participants fill out the registration form along with submitting three sketches of original avant-garde designs inspired by the theme. Each sketch must be accompanied by a brief description of the design concept, materials to be used, and production process. Participants must also include a short bio and a portfolio of their previous work.
August 30th, 2024 at 11:59 PM EST: Deadline to receive all submission applications. The application materials should be completed as listed below.
Designers will be required to submit a complete design by October 1, 2024. Designers who fail to meet this deadline will be disqualified.
Registration Fee: A non-refundable, non-transferable registration fee of $50 is required to move forward in the competition. Payment must be made in order to participate.
Models and Hair & Make-Up: Designers are responsible for selecting their own models. Participating designers will speak to our BCFW Beauty Team about their looks for the competition.
Fashion Event Competition: The competition finale will take place on October 18, 2024, in a venue to be announced in Boston, MA. All designers must be present at the show to compete. The designers will present their completed designs as an installation and conclude with as a runway show, and the winner will be chosen by a panel of judges. The winner of the competition will be announced at the end of the show. The prizes will be awarded that day. Winners must be present to collect their prize.
Legal: By submitting an entry, participants agree to grant the competition organizers, VStyle Productions, the right to use their names, photographs, and designs for promotional purposes. All designs submitted must be original work of the participants, and any infringement of intellectual property rights will result in disqualification.
